How Jumping Works and Basic Movement Controls in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Written by

In Monster Hunter Outlanders, jumping works a bit differently compared to other action RPGs. If you’ve been looking for a dedicated jump button, you’re not missing anything, there simply isn’t one, at least based on the current version of the game.

Instead of manual input, jumping is handled automatically by the game’s movement system. When your character runs toward certain obstacles or terrain, such as small ledges, rocks, or uneven surfaces, they will automatically perform a jump or climb animation. This makes traversal feel more fluid, but it can also be confusing at first, especially for players coming from traditional Monster Hunter titles.

Right now, it’s unclear whether the lack of a jump button is an intentional design choice or something that could change in future updates. Since the game is still evolving, there’s always a chance that more manual control options could be added later on.

How to Jump in Monster Hunter Outlanders

In short, jumping in the game is automatic when:

  • Run toward a cliff or elevated surface – Your character will attempt to climb if it’s reachable
  • Run toward small gaps or lower ledges – The character will automatically jump across
  • Run off a higher cliff – Your character will jump and transition into a glide
  • Gliding mechanic – The character uses a kite-like glider when falling from higher areas
