A new real-time strategy (RTS) game rooted in Filipino heritage has arrived—Insureksyon, a student-developed game that brings revolutionary themes and steampunk visuals to the battlefield, is now available for download on Itch.io.
Created by Paolo Alegre, Jude Papina, and Ryan Madrideo—students from Ateneo de Naga University’s BS Digital Illustration and Animation, Major in Game Development—the game is their passion project, crafted under the mentorship of adviser Edlaine Ann S. Mercado, MCGA.
Insureksyon blends classic RTS mechanics with a uniquely Filipino twist. Players take command of armies, build bases, gather resources, and engage in tactical warfare—while experiencing a Katipunan-inspired campaign set in an alternate steampunk universe. The game doesn’t directly follow historical events, but it channels the spirit of resistance, brotherhood, and ingenuity that defined the Philippine revolution.

Aside from its tactical gameplay, Insureksyon features fully voiced Filipino dialogue, including lines like “Ano po ang utos nyo, Heneral?”, “opo, opo”—adding a distinct local flavor that sets it apart from typical RTS titles.
The game serves as a promising showcase of the growing talent within the Philippine game development scene. The project reflects a rising trend of locally inspired games making their mark in the global indie space.
Insureksyon is now available for download via Itch.io. Players and supporters of local game development are encouraged to try it out and experience a uniquely Filipino take on the RTS genre:
