In a move that left many gamers frustrated, Sony recently mandated that players must link their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts with their Steam or Epic Games accounts to play their PC port games like Hell Divers 2 and the newest Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. This decision has sparked significant backlash, especially in regions where creating a PSN account is challenging without owning a PlayStation console. The mandate effectively locked out players in countries without PSN support, such as the Philippines, leading to automatic refunds for many pre-orders just days before the game’s release.
The game’s official release has been met with excitement, but also with desperation among gamers in region-locked areas who are resorting to illegal methods to access the game. However, there is a glimmer of hope for these players.
A specific Steam key for “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut (Asia)” with Sub ID 1025011 is now available, allowing players in 18 Asian countries to redeem and play the game.
The regions include:
- Philippines
- Brunei Darussalam
- Cambodia
- China
- Hong Kong
- India
- Indonesia
- Japan
- Lao People’s Democratic Republic
- Macau
- Malaysia
- Singapore
- South Africa
- South Korea
- Sri Lanka
- Taiwan
- Thailand
- Viet Nam
Additional Steam keys with Sub IDs 1025008, 1025010, and 1025012 are available for other regions. In the Philippines, local retailer DataBlitz has been offering these keys, although they quickly sold out due to high demand.
A user named Tr CA confirmed that the game was successfully activated under the packaging name “Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT (Asia).”
Another user, Galen Evilla, also confirmed the successful activation of the game key, stating, “Confirmed din sa akin na gumana yung code, medyo overpriced lang ng 500 pesos. haha. Hassle lang kasi magpatch ng pirated sa fitgirl kaya binili ko na rin.” (“Confirmed I activated the code; it’s quite overpriced 500 PHP more expensive. It’s a hassle patching with pirated copies from fitgirl, so I decided to buy it.”)
Importantly, activating this key does not require binding a PSN account for the single-player campaign. However, a PSN account is necessary for multiplayer mode.
This solution has provided a much-needed workaround for gamers in region-locked countries, allowing them to finally experience the highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on PC.
