Escape From Tarkov, a popular first-person shooter game developed by Battlestate Games, has been plagued by a growing cheating problem. In a recent video posted on YouTube, a content creator named g0at exposed the extent of the cheating issue by installing a cheat himself and uncovering just how rampant cheating is in the game.
In the video titled “The Wiggle That Killed Tarkov,” g0at uses the cheat to track and locate possible cheaters in the game. After several gameplay sessions, he was able to identify multiple players who are using the same cheat by observing their unusual behavior that are far from anything normal. These cheaters were able to pinpoint the exact location of other players as well as g0at’s location, even when hidden behind walls or objects, which is a behavior that cannot be replicated by regular players.
What’s even more alarming is that g0at was able to establish a “truce” with several cheaters by simply wiggling hidden behind various objects such as cars, houses, trees, bushes, floors, and even the grounds. The cheater players would wiggle in return, confirming that they too were using the same cheats. This confirms that cheating is not just a small problem in the game but is rather rampant among players.
This revelation has sparked outrage among the game’s community especially in Reddit/r/gaming, with many players feeling frustrated and discouraged. Cheating not only ruins the experience for all players, but it also undermines the integrity of the game and the hard work put in by the developers.
The problem of cheating has plagued the video game industry for years, and Escape from Tarkov is among the games struggling to combat it. Just this week, DOTA 2 also take extra step on banning 40,000 cheaters from their game by an element in the game that only cheaters can see, a honey pot and those who fell on the trap are banned from the game.
While the decision of the content creator to install cheats to expose cheaters may be controversial, g0at’s video has effectively shed light on the pervasive issue of cheating in Escape From Tarkov. With the game’s anti-cheat measures failing to fully address the problem, it is imperative that the developers take swift and decisive action to implement more effective measures to ensure fair play for all.
Developer’s Response to Cheating Concerns
In response, the developer has posted a Reddit update outlining their efforts to combat cheating in the game. The post assures players that the developer’s top priority is the issue of cheating and they are working hard to eliminate it.
The developer has emphasized that they have always been concerned about this problem, and the work to catch cheaters is always ongoing. They have been banning several thousand cheaters a day, and its 3rd party anti-cheat they are using, the Battleye are keeps improving. The developer is also improving their own additional cheater detection tools, with an upcoming update and new hacker detection methods to automate it is in the works.
