Gamers who want to win every match and enjoy the game to its fullest will benefit from a high-quality audio setup. Not only does it provide quality audio but allows you to track your opponents’ movements and sneak around undetected in a competitive match. A wireless setup allows you to move around freely, without being tethered to your desk and switch between different devices. There are tons of wireless earbuds in the market, and few are designed specifically for gamers. One of these is the KZ VXS True Wireless HD Bluetooth earphones, made by KZ, known for quality and cheap audio devices. It promises to deliver an immersive gaming experience with amazing sound quality, dual and single mode design, APT-X lossless decoding, a gaming mode that will improve the latency up to 40ms, CVC call noise reduction technology and a strong battery life.
In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the KZ VXS earbuds and see how it stack up against other gaming earbuds on the market, as well as what makes them great for gaming in mobile, PC and console settings.
Look and Feel
The KZ VXS comes in a minimalist white box wrapped in a plastic. You’ll immediately see the earphone itself and charging case in a circular shape.
Pulling the cover shows our earphone on top of its white tray. It includes the instruction manual, USB type-C cable and 3 pairs of eartips in small, medium and large sizes. As for the charging adapter, it is not included.
The first thing you’ll notice about the KZ VXS is its sleek and overall minimalist design. The earbuds and the charging case are all in black matte with its logo as its primary accent. The matte plastic case is easy to clean and doesn’t leave any fingerprint marks on it, though the transparent charging case cover tends to scratch as it’s made of acrylic. If you are a sweaty person, wiping down the grease on your earphones may require some rubbing alcohol to clean it.
The charging case is rather heavy, but the earbuds themselves are lightweight, despite having a battery inside. The earphone cones are plated with gold and give off an expensive look.
Comfort
The soft, silicone earbuds are designed to conform to your ears, and you can choose from three sets of silicon eartips (small, medium and large) to find the perfect fit. I was wearing my earphones for hours at a time during testing, and I never even noticed any discomfort using them. But for those who are new to earphones, you may somehow feel discomfort on the part where our earphone is always hitting against our ears.
The earphones are small and lightweight, so they’re comfortable to wear even during long gaming sessions and won’t feel heavy. The shape of the earphone also perfectly matches the contours of the ear canal, which makes it easier to fit and help remove background noises.
The charging case is also black and small, making it easy to carry around. It’s like having a yoyo toy in your pocket.
Sound Quality
Of course, the most important thing is the sound quality and the KZ VXS is equipped with 10mm driver and does not disappoint in this department. The sound is crisp and clear, with excellent dynamic range. The bass response is also impressive, something that is often lacking in regular earphones. The highs were crisp and the lows were deep and rich. I didn’t experience any distortion at high volume levels either. The earphone produces deep bass and clear highs, making it perfect for gaming or listening to music. The KZ VXS provides superb sound quality, thanks to its qualcomm aptX adaptive technology where it supports up to 48kHz sampling rate.
As for the gaming, the sound quality is great! I could hear every footstep, crowd talk and you can pinpoint where the voice or gunshots were coming from. This was especially useful when playing multiplayer where I needed to be able to hear my teammates as well as my opponents. Also very surreal and immersive when used on triple A title games like Call of Duty and other hyper realistic games.
The only drawbacks is there is no way to disable the volume reduction of the media you are playing when you are in a call like in Facebook messenger. But for in-game voice chat, you have nothing to worry.
Battery Life
Another great feature of the KZ VXS is their long battery life. With up to 5 hours of playtime on a single charge, these earbuds can last through even the longest gaming sessions. And if you do happen to run out of juice, no problem! The included charging case provides an additional 20 hours of playtime so you can keep on gaming even when there’s no outlet to be found.
We found that the Earphone could be used for almost 6 hours without recharging and be able to charge back to the charging case up to 5 times.
Connectivity
Pairing the earphone is also easy, after opening the charging case you can start pairing your new device to your computer or mobile with its Bluetooth 5.0 connection. After that, its all good and you can start right away.
The range of our connection can be reached up to 5 meters in a room with walls, but it can reach up to 10 meters without any obstructions. This means that you can pick up your food for delivery at the doorstep without you being disconnected to the voice chat with your teammates.
Activating the Game mode on the headphones promises a latency of up to 40 milliseconds. We tested this using our methodology from our previous review article and got results of 55ms on a Bluetooth 5.0 connection through a PC. This is close to its promised speed. Playing FPS games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta on PlayStation is almost real time and you will barely notice any lag at all.
Controls
As for the control, it has a touch control for you to control the media player you currently playing. Tapping the earphone will switch the music or video from pause to play and tapping it twice on the left pair will play the previous music while tapping the right pair will play the next music.
To enter the high-performance or gaming mode for low latency, tapping it thrice to turn it on or off. There are other controls such as Siri/Google Assistant, Hang up and Reject Calls.
Conclusion
Overall, I was really impressed with the KZ VXS True Wireless HD Bluetooth earphones. They’re comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, and their sleek design makes them perfect for gamers who are always on-the-go. Most importantly, though, is their incredible sound quality. With 10mm drivers and advanced Bluetooth 5.0 technology, these earbuds provide an immersive gaming experience that any gamer is sure to love.
