Earlier today, Sony announces the whole hardware specification of their next-generation console, PlayStation 5 and how it change the future of gaming. Players around the world expects the recent announcement that the new PS5 will have an ultra-high-speed SSD, AMD GPU with ray tracing, immersive 3D audio and a lot more. Do Sony delivers these expectation?
The lead system architect of PS5, Mark Cenry, introduces the hard system architecture of the new console. In its presentation, it shows up the ultra-high-speed SSD and integrated custom I/O system that are developed to specifically removed some barrier during game play like the loading screen. It also lets the developers to stream their assets into PS5 in super fast rate achieving a richer world game environment, reducing load times and allowing players to play more games than waiting.
The Graphics Card in the PS5 is a custom GPU made by AMD, the new GPU enables ray tracing which simulates lights moves in real life and bounces off in various surfaces such as glass, water, light refraction and so on. This gives the games more immersive and real-life.
The next is its 3d audio, featuring their newest technology, the tempest engine that simulates the exact location of the sound without the use of high-end speaker system. It offers greater sense of presence and locality, allowing players to hear raindrops hitting in different surfaces, and precisely locates the direction.
Backward Compatibility, the PS5 new CPU architects allows backward compatibility with previous PS4 titles. Top 100 PS4 titles are expected to be compatible and playable during the released and more than 4000 games to be tested to expands their backwards compatibility.
