The author of the well known adventure game The Witcher, Andrzej Sapkowski doesn’t make any money on every sale of the game that is bought. The reason why, its because Spakowski opted to be payed upfront instead of the original royalty deal with CD Projeckt Red.
On his interview with the EuroGamer, Sapkowski recounted that CD Projeckt Red brought a big bag of money and that is only what he ask for. “What I expect from an adaptation: a big bag of money. That is all.”
The thing is, the game The Witcher become so successful than what he anticipated, he even regret it and saying “I was stupid enough to sell them rights to the whole bunch, I didn’t believe in their success. But who could foresee their success? I couldn’t”. and CD Projeckt Red even offered him a percentage of their profit, but he said “No, there will be no profit at all, give me all my money right now! The whole amount.”.
He also acknowledge the quality of the game. “The game is made very well, and they merit all of the beneficiaries they get from it.”
The latest franchise of the Witcher is the Wild hunt a whole pack story of Geralt. For now, CD Projeckt Red has no further plans for the Witcher games.
