NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 makes GTA 5 look more realistic than GTA 6, turning AI-slop into a graphics feature

Written by

Content creator SwurvGaming has showcased what Grand Theft Auto V could look like with NVIDIA’s new DLSS 5 technology. Though it was an unofficial mod enabling DLSS 5, the transformation gives Los Santos, its vehicles, and characters an uncannily lifelike appearance, sometimes resembling real-world footage more than traditional 3D graphics.

SwurvGaming has published similar DLSS 5 experiments featuring several other games, offering a glimpse at how generative AI could transform familiar titles.

The results can look impressive, although some scenes still produce noticeable “AI slop,” especially when the technology works with older 3D models containing limited geometry, textures, and animation data. When insufficient visual information is available, the AI may invent details that appear inconsistent or unnatural.

NVIDIA says DLSS 5 uses a real-time neural-rendering model to add photorealistic lighting and materials while preserving developers’ artistic control. The technology is scheduled to arrive in fall 2026, with official support announced for games including Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

However, the GTA V footage should be viewed as an unofficial visual experiment rather than an official Rockstar or NVIDIA upgrade. Still, it offers an interesting and slightly unsettling preview of a future where games may no longer look like games at all.
