Ubisoft Philippines played a key role in the development of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, contributing across game design, programming, animation, audio, art, level design, and quality assurance.

The modern remake of the acclaimed 2013 pirate adventure marks Ubisoft Philippines’ largest project to date. It also arrives as the studio celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026 and represents its 13th contribution to a major AAA title.
Developed alongside lead studio Ubisoft Singapore and several other Ubisoft teams worldwide, Black Flag Resynced brings players back to the Golden Age of Piracy and the journey of Edward Kenway.
Filipino Developers Took Ownership of Key Features
Ubisoft Philippines was entrusted with several important parts of the remake, including the Forts and Harpooning gameplay systems.
The Filipino team also helped develop major locations such as Kingston, Port Royale, and Long Bay. Its contributions extended to main story missions, Templar Hunts, Assassin Contracts, and environmental storytelling found throughout the game.

Associate Producer Alfonse Angliongto led the Philippine team’s work on the project, which required the studio to take full responsibility for delivering several sections of the game.
According to Ubisoft Philippines, the team carefully studied fan feedback, reviews, online discussions, and gameplay walkthroughs before rebuilding the experience. The goal was to preserve what players loved about the original while improving areas that could benefit from modern technology and design.
Rebuilding the Caribbean With Modern Technology
The Philippine studio helped reimagine several of the game’s Caribbean locations using newer visual technologies that were not widely available when the original game launched in 2013.
These advancements include Physically Based Rendering for more realistic materials, Ray-Traced Global Illumination for improved lighting and shadows, and Micropolygon technology for greater environmental detail.
The team also added smaller environmental stories to make the world feel more alive. In Kingston, players may see residents seeking shade beneath verandas, washing clothes beside rivers, or going about their daily routines.
The Audio team further supported the experience using Ubisoft Philippines’ 5.1 Surround Sound studio, creating layered environmental sounds designed to make exploration and missions feel more immersive.
Forts and Harpooning Receive Major Improvements
The Forts feature was expanded to make attacks feel more dynamic and connected to Edward’s crew.
After disabling a fort’s defenses, players must now dock the Jackdaw and storm the area alongside their crew. Some pirates will join the battle, while others may prioritize looting and pillaging.
Fort commanders also put up more resistance than they did in the original game. Edward’s crew now helps force open the war room before the commander makes a final stand, giving each successful capture a stronger conclusion.

Harpooning was also redesigned with more physics-driven movement. The rope now responds dynamically to Edward’s aim, the movement of the boat, the target, and the distance between them.
Ubisoft Philippines’ programmers and animators worked together to make the activity feel more physical and reactive than its original version.
Filipino QA Team Helped Protect the Original’s Legacy
The Philippine QA team also played an important role in ensuring that the remake stayed faithful to the spirit of the original Black Flag.

For the team, testing the game was not only about identifying technical issues. It also meant protecting an experience remembered and valued by longtime fans.
With developers from multiple disciplines involved, Ubisoft Philippines helped shape both the technical and creative sides of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

The project highlights the growing contribution of Filipino developers to large-scale international game production and marks another milestone for Ubisoft Philippines after a decade in the local industry.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
