How to Remove Thorn Barriers in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Written by

In Monster Hunter Outlanders, you’ll sometimes encounter thorn barriers blocking entrances, paths, or even treasure chests hidden behind them. These thorns are not just visual obstacles, they actually damage your character when touched, making it risky to simply walk through them.

Trying to attack the thorns won’t help either. In fact, doing so will only hurt your character, so brute force is not the solution here. Instead, the game requires you to use a specific environmental mechanic to safely remove them.

The key to clearing thorn barriers is using an explosive plant called Firebloom or a Blazestone. If you spot a thorn blockage, there’s almost always a Firebloom or Blazestone nearby. It usually looks like a small flame source or a plant with a burning core, making it easy to identify once you know what to look for.

How to Remove Thorn (Step-by-Step)

  • Look for a Firebloom nearby – Thorn areas are usually paired with one
  • Interact with the Firebloom – It will activate and start a countdown like a time bomb
  • Carry or guide it toward the thorn – Position it close to the blockage
  • Wait for the explosion – Once it detonates, the thorn will be destroyed

After the explosion, the path will be cleared, allowing you to safely pass through or access whatever was hidden behind it whether it’s a shortcut, a hidden area, or a treasure chest.

This also means that if you see a Firebloom nearby, there is likely a treasure, hidden path, or blocked entrance in the area where you can use it.
