How to Fish and Find Fishing Spots in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Written by

Fishing in Monster Hunter Outlanders is a relaxing side activity, but it can be a bit confusing at first, especially when you don’t know where to start. The biggest challenge early on is actually finding a fishing spot, since the game doesn’t immediately point you to one.

As you progress, you’ll naturally come across fishing areas while exploring. However, if you want to unlock fishing early, there’s a reliable spot you can go to right away. Head to the left side of the Giantwood Locale, near Tranquil Bay. Look for a river in that area, and around the center of it, you should find a fishing spot. You may need to explore or unlock more of the map first for it to appear clearly.

Once you find a fishing spot, the process itself is straightforward. The game provides built-in prompts, and the mechanics are similar to most fishing systems, you cast, wait, and reel in while managing a meter.

How to Fish (Step-by-Step)

  • Find a fishing spot (look for fish activity in water areas)
  • Equip your fishing rod and bait (already provided in the game)
  • Aim and cast into areas with visible fish
  • Wait for a bite
  • Reel in the fish while keeping the meter centered (green zone)
  • Adjust left or right if the fish pulls away
  • Keep tapping to maintain balance until the meter is depleted

If the fish isn’t moving, you’ll need to manually adjust your direction left or right while continuing to reel. The goal is to keep the indicator within the green zone until the fish is fully caught.

At the end of each catch, you’ll receive fish based on their size and type, and each fishing spot has its own unique set of fish to collect. This makes fishing not just a side activity, but also something worth exploring if you want to complete your collection.
