Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Quietly Returns to Steam

Written by

Valve has quietly brought Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) back to Steam as a separate standalone download released on March 3, 2026, now using a new App ID. Unlike before, this version is not publicly listed on the Steam store, meaning players won’t find it through normal search and must access it through a direct link instead.

The returning build appears to serve as a preserved version of the classic CS:GO experience following the transition to Counter-Strike 2. However, Valve no longer operates official matchmaking servers for this version, so players cannot queue for competitive or official matches like before.

Instead, the game can still be played through bots or by joining community-hosted servers, allowing longtime fans to revisit the original gameplay and classic maps that defined CS:GO for years. While limited compared to its original service, the return gives the community a way to experience the legacy version of the iconic tactical shooter once again.
