RE9 Announced: Resident Evil Requiem Continues the Storyline in a Return to Raccoon City

Written by

Capcom has officially unveiled Resident Evil Requiem (RE9), the ninth mainline installment in the legendary Resident Evil series. Scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

This new entry marks a dramatic return to one of the franchise’s most iconic locations Raccoon City, the epicenter of the original outbreak. Once devastated by a government-ordered missile strike in 1998, the city now serves as the backdrop for a new mystery that ties into the series’ deepest roots. Capcom describes Requiem as combining “deeply terrifying aspects of psychological horror with pulse-pounding action that franchise fans know and love.”

The reveal trailer showcases a fresh cast of characters, including Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent tasked with investigating a series of unexplained deaths. While the Winters family saga has seemingly concluded, Requiem looks to explore new threats while honoring the series’ legacy.

Built on the powerful RE ENGINE, Resident Evil Requiem delivers detailed environments, expressive character animations, and next-gen enhancements that push the series’ visual fidelity even further. From lifelike facial details to subtle lighting and weather effects, the game aims to immerse players like never before.

Capcom confirmed more updates will follow throughout the year, with the first public hands-on demo planned for Gamescom 2025. For now, fans can catch a glimpse of what’s ahead by watching the official reveal trailer and visiting the Resident Evil Requiem website.
