Event 1: Ice Fishing Showdown

The main highlight of the Snow Festival is the Fishing Showdown event. Similar to the Xavier Fishing Contest, this is a competitive fishing event with ranked rewards. However, there are a few key differences. The Fishing Showdown runs twice daily during specific time windows, unlike Xavier which is open all day. Also, the ranking rewards are even more valuable this time, making placement very worthwhile. Furthermore, special baits must be used rather than the regular baits.

How to Get Ice Fishing Rod

Getting Fishing Rod can be easier after you have completed the Odin Burn event, the 4K Odin burn will allow you to get roughly 26 to 30 pcs of Fully Snowflakes. These Snowflakes can be used to Wish on the Gingerbread and has a higher chance of getting Fishing Rod.

For that start, you can use it to fish initially in the contest. Upon fishing, you’ll be able to earn a lot of Catch Coin, this coin can then be used to exchange for Ice Fishing Rod.

Where to Get Fishing Bait for Ice Fishing

To participate in the Fishing Showdown, you’ll need special event-exclusive bait that can be obtained for free from the 3 Gingerbread NPCs located at the top of the Lutie map. Each Gingerbread NPC offers a different bait:

  • The Cost-Effective Bait requires inexpensive materials like fishing vouchers to exchange. This is the most affordable bait option. Score you get ranging from 20 to 50.
  • The Mid-Tier Bait requires mid-range priced materials like Kafra Corp Coin to exchange. This bait is moderately expensive. Score you get ranging from 50 to 70.
  • The Luxurious Bait requires expensive coins like Valkyrie Coins to exchange. This is the most costly yet effective bait. Score you get ranging from 70 to 99.

The bait you choose will depend on your current material stocks and willingness to spend. The more expensive Luxurious Bait will give you an edge, while the Cost-Effective Bait is sufficient for most. Make sure to stock up on bait before the Fishing Showdown starts!

Here is the list of Gingerbread that gives these fishing bait.

How to Participate in Ice Fishing Contest

To participate in the Fishing Showdown, you’ll need to travel to the event location in Lutie during one of the scheduled times. Talk to the NPC Lutie in Prontera Square near the Sledgehammer NPCs to be transported to the Lutie map.

Once in Lutie, head to the northernmost point of the map to join the Fishing Showdown. Here you’ll be able to enter the competition during the allotted time windows. From here, go to one of the 3 fishing spots.

When participating in the Fishing Showdown, select your bait wisely. It’s recommended to start by practicing with the cheap Fruit Bait. Use these initial rounds to perfect your timing and reflexes without wasting expensive bait. Once you feel confident in your fishing skills, change to the top-tier Red Shrimp Bait to get higher score.

After that, you should get score from 80+ when using the Red Shrimp Bait. The goal is to get the highest rank top 1, to get the headgear rewards.

Ranking Rewards (Daily and Overall Ranking)

After each Fishing Showdown session, players are ranked based on the total length of fish caught during that round. The top scoring players in each round are rewarded with headgear prizes.

There is also an overall event leaderboard that tracks players’ cumulative fishing length over the entire event duration. The top-ranking players on the overall leaderboard will receive grand prizes like gold headgear, gold cards, gift boxes, and more.

Event 2: Snowy Quests (Daily and Cumulative Quest)

Like most events in Ragnarok X, the Snow Festival features a range of daily and cumulative quests. The daily quests provide materials needed for the Fishing Showdown and materials needed for event exchange. Surprisingly, there are more daily quests than usual, offering plenty of opportunities to get more rewards.

Meanwhile, there are fewer cumulative quests this time around. The cumulative goals tend to tie into the Fishing Showdown objectives, encouraging participation in the competitive fishing event.

Here are all of the daily and cumulative quest for this event:

Event 3: Snowflake Wish

The Snow Festival also introduces the Snowflake Wish, a limited-time gacha event. The good news is you can earn draws just by completing daily activities, without spending real money. However, the drop rates for rare costumes are extremely low.

Common rewards like Panacea have high draw rates, while the exclusive winter outfits have less than a 1% chance. You’ll likely need to supplement free draws with paid pulls for a shot at the rare cosmetic prizes.

While the gacha allows free participation, the odds are stacked against winning without shelling out cash. Unless you get very lucky, you’ll end up with lots of basic items rather than the sought-after winter fashion pieces. Ultimately, the Snowflake Wish offers a fun bonus event but in a very pay-to-win style. Manage expectations going in and don’t break the bank chasing costumes.
