How to Install Lossless Scaling LSFG-VK 2.0 on Steam Deck for Smoother, Faster FPS

Steam Deck users can now access LSFG-VK 2.0, a major update that brings Lossless Scaling’s frame-generation technology to Linux and SteamOS through Vulkan. It can generate additional frames between those rendered by a game, making gameplay appear smoother without requiring native frame-generation support.

Version 2.0 introduces an entirely rebuilt pipeline designed to improve performance and efficiency, especially on AMD-powered handhelds. According to its developer, FP16 acceleration can make processing two to three times faster on supported hardware, while Steam Deck users have reported improvements of around three to four times compared with the previous version.

The update also reduces memory usage, adds support for more Vulkan-capable hardware, and improves compatibility with numerous games and applications. Game profiles can now be identified through their Steam App ID, Linux binary, or Windows executable, making LSFG-VK easier to configure.

For Steam Deck owners, the community-developed Decky LSFG-VK plugin has also been rewritten to support LSFG-VK 2.0. The new version automatically handles launch options, organizes profiles for Steam and non-Steam games, and provides controller-friendly access to settings such as the FPS multiplier, performance mode, and flow scale.

How to Install LSFG-VK 2.0 on Steam Deck

  1. Download and purchase Lossless Scaling on Steam using your Steam Deck. Currently, it is PHP 239.95.
  2. Open the Lossless Scaling page in your Steam Library, select Properties, go to Game Versions & Betas, and choose the lsfg-vk branch. Allow Steam to download the required files.
  3. Visit the official Decky Loader website using Desktop Mode and follow its installation instructions. Restart or return to Gaming Mode after completing the setup.
  4. Visit the plugin’s GitHub releases page and download the latest Decky LSFG-VK.zip package.
  5. Open Decky Loader by pressing the “…” button from your Steam Deck and browse down to the bottom and find the plug icon. From you should see “Decky LSFG-VK”, press the settings icon at the upper right, enable Developer Mode from the General Tab, and then open the Developer section. Choose Install Plugin from ZIP and select the downloaded package.
  6. Open Decky LSFG-VK from the Decky menu and select Install LSFG-VK. The plugin will automatically set up the necessary Vulkan layer.
  7. Select a Steam or non-Steam game inside the plugin, enable LSFG-VK, and configure the desired multiplier. Available options include 2x, 3x, and 4x frame generation, alongside performance and motion-quality controls.

Players upgrading from an older version should uninstall LSFG-VK through the previous plugin first. Profiles created for version 1 are incompatible with version 2.0 and must be recreated after updating. Decky LSFG-VK is also an unofficial community plugin and is not directly supported by the developers of Lossless Scaling or LSFG-VK.
