CrossFire: Rainbow, the Classic FPS Returns With a Horror Twist

The legendary FPS series CrossFire is making a comeback, and this time it’s stepping into uncharted territory. Titled CrossFire: Rainbow, the new entry in the long-running franchise will retain the tactical shooting, but inject it with a chilling horror element, a first for the series.

Authorized by Smilegate and developed by Linlangtianshang, CrossFire: Rainbow is being built with Unreal Engine 5, promising cutting-edge visuals and atmospheric detail. In the first gameplay demo, the classic CrossFire combat zones are transformed into unsettling, fear-filled battlegrounds.

This eerie premise suggests a shift from purely competitive PvP to a game mode with PvE elements, possibly including a campaign or co-op missions. While the developers haven’t confirmed details, the gameplay footage features enemy designs and set pieces that feel tailor-made for horror-action storytelling.

The official trailer, recorded directly from the PC version, showcases real in-game combat alongside scripted cutscenes. The tense atmosphere is further amplified by a haunting soundtrack from Ludvig Forssell, known for his work on cinematic and game scores.

Confirmed for PC and Mobile

CrossFire: Rainbow is officially coming to both PC and mobile platforms. While the PC gameplay demo was the first to be revealed, the game has already been listed on TapTap https://www.taptap.cn/app/761884, confirming a mobile release.

CrossFire has always been synonymous with fast-paced, competitive FPS gameplay. But Rainbow’s horror twist could open the door to an entirely new experience, blending tactical shooting with suspense, mystery, and survival. For players who aren’t into the competitive scene, this might be the perfect entry point into the CrossFire universe.
