IKEA is launching a store in Roblox and seeking employees to work there, offering €14.80 per hour

IKEA is taking a unique step into the gaming world by offering paid virtual jobs in its new Roblox store. Starting June 24th, players can immerse themselves in “The Co-Worker Game,” a virtual universe that mirrors the working world of IKEA. The Swedish retail giant is offering these virtual positions at a rate of €14.80 (PHP 946), the same rate paid to their London co-workers. However, there are only 10 positions available, and applicants must be over 18 and reside in the UK or Ireland. Sorry, no Philippine residence 🙁

The new venture, launching June 24th, is part of IKEA’s broader campaign, “Careers Done Different,” aimed at showcasing its unique career philosophy. In “The Co-Worker Game,” players can explore various roles within IKEA, helping customers, organizing showrooms, and even serving food at the Swedish Food Market and Bistro. The experience is designed to reflect the real-world flexibility and lateral career moves that IKEA encourages among its employees.

Applications for these paid roles opened on June 3rd and will close on June 16th. Successful candidates will be invited to virtual interviews between June 14th and June 18th. This initiative is developed by The Gang, a Swedish game design company, and aims to attract a new generation of co-workers through an innovative and interactive approach.

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, expressed excitement about this initiative, saying, “We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently. At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers can change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world.”
