The highly anticipated PC port of Ghost of Tsushima has hit a roadblock, encountering unexpected obstacles that have led to its removal from major PC gaming platforms. Steam and the Epic Games Store users in multiple countries, including the Philippines, are now facing disappointment as they are unable to access this beloved PlayStation exclusive.
Visiting the game’s official page on the Epic Games Store presents users with the message, “This content is currently unavailable in your platform or region.”
Similarly, while the game’s page is still accessible on Steam, players in affected regions are unable to pre-order the game.
Sony’s Mandate
Sony’s recent mandate, requiring PC players to link their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts to their Steam accounts to play new Sony PC launch titles, has sparked a significant reaction from the gaming community. This mandate, which first came to light with Helldivers 2, has raised concerns among players about privacy and platform exclusivity.
Just last week, Sucker Punch Productions, the developers of Ghost of Tsushima, clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that only the “Legends” online multiplayer mode requires a PSN account, while the single-player game does not. Despite this assurance, the game has still faced removal from PC storefronts.
Refund for Pre-orders
Additionally, players who had pre-ordered the game on Steam are now receiving refunds. The refund email from Steam states, “You are receiving a refund for a game you pre-purchased – Ghost of Tsushima. The publisher of this game is now requiring a secondary account to play portions of this game, and this account cannot be created from your country.”
One disappointed gamer from the GeForce Community Philippines group expressed their frustration: “Hays nakaka-umay tignan, ni-refund na ng Steam mga pre-purchase ng Ghost of Tsushima. Akala ko pa naman makakalaro na ako next week, sobrang excited ko pa naman.” (“It’s frustrating to see that Steam has refunded the pre-purchases of Ghost of Tsushima. I thought I’d finally get to play it next week; I was really looking forward to it.”), says Kent Sinco in the post.
For now, PC gamers in affected regions must await an alternative solution or a shift in strategy that brings Ghost of Tsushima to their preferred platform.
