Chairman, President, and the CEO of PLDT, Manuel V. Pangilinan, tweeted on May 6, 2021, that their subsidiary satellite television company Cignal is set to provide broadband internet nationwide using Satellite service. The launching of this new service of Cignal is set to unveil this week, Sunday, May 16, 2021.
Though there is not enough detailed information regarding the price or what satellite service they will be using for the country. Just last year, in December 2020, Smart Communications also launched a similar internet service using Cignal’s VSAT (A very small-aperture terminal) Technology.
The new service of Cignal will probably help rural areas where the internet is hard to reach using wired connections like Fiber or DSL. Using this new wireless technology, it will be easier for customers to have easy access to reliable internet using satellite service.
