This is a broad error and the fixes may vary from computer to computer. But here are some of the solution that you could try to fix this problem.

Verify Files

Before installing anything, let’s troubleshoot first and ensure that all of your installation files are in intact. The error may be just related to a corrupted files.

To check its integrity, go to Epic Games > Library > Right click the GTA V icon then Verify.

Wait until the verification is complete. If it thus re-installs something to your computer, it means the verification found a corrupted files in the directory and needs to be repaired. Wait until it completes and it might fix the error you’re encountering.

Try opening the game and see if the Error will not appear again.

Install Built-in Redistributables

For some reason, there maybe an issue while installing the built-in redistributable like DirectX, VC_Redis and etc.. You can manually reinstall these files by going to the installation directory of your Grand Theft Auto V.

For example, in our case, our installation folder is I:\Epic\GTAV\Redistributables.

Go to the installation folder and install the following files, just double click the file and next next next.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, you can try reinstalling it with the latest version of these files. Check the instruction below.

Install Rockstar Games Launcher

Next way to try is to fix it by installing or reinstalling the updated Rockstar Games Launcher which contains some pre-installed files for all Rockstar games. Known error like “The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll error was not found” and many among other will fix this issue.

You can download it at https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher.

After installation, try playing the game again see if it works. If not, try our next solution.

DirectX Problem

Next is to fix this by updating your DirectX video card API which contains all of the required modules for all games that uses DirectX 9 to 11. You can download a new update from Microsoft website which includes D3DX9, D3DX10, and D3DX11 dll’s.

You can download DirectX below, it works for any OS.

Install it, after that check again if the game will now work. If not, try our next solution.

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

Next is, your PC might have an issue with the run-time components of Visual C++ libraries. Usually, these are pre-installed from along with other games, just like the redis folder in GTA V installation directory.

The common error you get from this is getting an VC Runtime error, that says “PlayGTAV.exe – System Error, The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”.

You can download the latest Visual C++ Redistributable from VisualStudio Microsoft website.

Go to https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/

Scroll down and select Other Tools and Frameworks.

Then find Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2019 and select your own for your OS version (32bit or 64bit).

Click Download to get it. Try installing the VC_redist and try playing the game again, see if the error didn’t appear.

If not, move to the next solution.

Installing Media Feature Pack

If you’re using an N “Europe” version of windows like Windows 7 N, 8 N, Vista N and 10 Pro N, this error is common to these OS since it doesn’t include a Windows Media Player and other pre-installed media packages. GTA V may use this package on some parts of the game, so installing this media pack might fix the issue.

You can download the Media Feature Pack for the following OS.

Reinstall GTA V

Your last resort is reinstalling the GTA V from scratch. If above mentioned solution didn’t fix the error, you might try re-downloading the 94GB game again and re-install the GTA V.

To properly uninstall the game, go to Epic Games > Library > Right click Grand Theft Auto V > Uninstall.

Make sure to restart your PC before re-installing the game.
